There are three kinds of reach on Facebook – organic reach, paid reach and viral reach. Organic reach is the number of individuals who see your post when you post it. While paid reach is the number of more individuals who see your post when paying just to show it up in other news feeds. And lastly, the viral reach, that is the number of people who see your Facebook post based on likes, comments and shares of other people who see it through paid and organic reach.

However, Facebook is now limiting promoting page reach and organic reach, yet they can do nothing to limit and control viral reach. Viral posts are a measure of how good your post is and how well you encourage Facebook users to share with them such as infographics, Facebook memes, etc. To maximize the chances of a good viral post, you must do everything to make your post appealing.

Keep It Short and Simple

Although Twitter is the site with post length limit, on Facebook, you should keep your posts short as much as possible. Long posts tend to lose users who do not have the attention span to read everything you post. Make your posts short, like one or two to three sentences to avoid having your followers cut-off. Keeping your post within the Twitter character limit may help you, especially if you want to cross-post.

Avoid Posting Text-Only Posts

Visual media are more compelling than pure text, especially on Facebook. Posts that are purely text is easy to overlook as your eye skims from one image to the next. It is also easy to come up with a basic image to promote what you are saying, even if the image is just larger and more typographically optimized text. If you do not have any video or link to share, at least post an image to go along with the text, no matter how basic the image is. Just make sure that the image is appealing and related to the post. It definitely cannot hurt you and you may be surprised of the benefit of how a simple image brings.

Hide Links

When posting a link in the status update box, Facebook generates a preview, which is based on the first few lines of your content or the meta data of destination post and takes one image from the page content to use as a preview. Once the preview has been generated, you can remove the link and post it. This is one way to streamline the posts. Why still have the text link when the preview is already there? Avoid redundancy by pruning the link out and help prevent the “read more” label from appearing on your posts.

Keep It Positive

The emotional tone of the post is a major factor for the viral potential of your post. Posting with a positive tone is better, while depressive and angry posts are typically the worst. Try to avoid patronizing or insulting audience or your followers. Also make your posts, useful and interesting.
