Marketing through Facebook is a very powerful tool. However, it has a range of pitfalls if you do not know how to be careful. You can even alienate Facebook users, incur some search penalties and even run afoul of the law. These things can be disastrous for your business, so you must protect your clients and yourself. Below are some possible threats and ways to prevent it.

Page Privacy
Your page is a hub for discussion about a certain content, which aims to attract more users. Most of the time, you don't want to limit the visibility of your posts. But the exception is when a certain publicly visible page is breaking the law. This often happens when your Facebook page is related to a regulated product or controlled substance such as firearms, alcohol, tobacco, etc. To protect your page, use the content and age restrictions in the Facebook settings. Make sure that you set your audience, according to your target like at what age is necessary to use your product.
Copyright Violation
When you post a content, its either you attribute it to its original source or people will assume that it is your own. Some of the items are not yours, yet can be published under its fair use. This typically includes, videos, songs, images and the written word. Technically, everything will be automatically copyrighted for its certain uses and the public domain can be used anyway freely. The reality is, most of the minor copyright violations go unnoticed. To protect your page, limit yourself to the content you make. That's why you need to have a perfect Facebook post that should be legally yours to post.
Facebook Security
The primary focus of your Facebook page is to expose your business to many people as much as possible. But, with its exposure, comes the threat. You must make sure that your account is secure or else will be jeopardizing the privacy of all of your followers. Protect yourself by making a strong password. A strong password should be composed of letters and numbers, with symbols or numbers and often in 10 digits. Also, as much as possible, avoid making some security questions so easy to deduce. If you have a strong password, you can make sure that your page will be safe and secured.
Controversy
Controversy can spawn arguments and discussions. Argument can lead to traffic and this traffic is popularity. This popularity often leads to a viral explosion of exposure and it seems easy. Unfortunately, it is actually not. Facebook users can identify is a business is just drumming up the controversy just to get people talking. To protect yourself, as much as possible avoid controversy for its own sake. It is okay to ask your followers, which of the teams in the FIBA world cup they prefer. It is also fine to ask them which singers they like to see in a concert, but it is not ethical to ask them where they stand on political parties or foreign wars. Always be cautious about what you ask.
